Sewing Workshop

Since September 2010, Cambodian women and men between eighteen and twenty-seven can reiceive vocational training as tailors. In the last course there were 10 trainees (f/m) who successfully graduated in December 2014.

The majority of our sewing students usually has no previous sewing experience. They attend morning and afternoon classes, lasting four hours each, and learn the necessary sewing skills from three local professional tailors. KKO was able to afford to pay for the teachers` own apprenticeships and now they are passing on their knowledge, which in general commences with a lesson on the correct threading of a needle and moves onto teaching the students how to sew their own garment. So, the beginners learn the real basics of tailoring, but also start to make simple clothes such as trousers, shirts, skirts and dresses as well as uniforms. While the more advanced students, with their good grounding in basic sewing skills, develop their knowledge in sewing traditional wedding dresses.

KKO supports more than 250 students daily. All of our English and computer lessons as well as the two areas of vocational training are given for free. So of course we are always happy for somebody to give KKO and the students a leg up. We rely on donations to our project to be able to continue our work. The best way to support KKO, is to sponsor an individual student.
