My name is Florence Venne, 24 years old from Canada. I would like to share on my behalf about my experience at KKO as an assistant teaching volunteer for 4 weeks from the end of May until mid of June, 2025:
What makes KKO so special is its mission: to provide children from underprivileged communities with a safe, supportive space to learn English and gain tools for a brighter future. This mission is not only important — it is essential. Education is a powerful force for change, and it is incredibly moving to see how much progress the students make, and how proud they are to learn.
Volunteering at this rural school in Cambodia has been a very meaningful experience. Every day, I witnessed the dedication of the local teachers, volunteers, and staff who work together with such compassion and purpose. The strong sense of teamwork here is truly inspiring — we support and learn from each other constantly, making this experience not only impactful for the students but also deeply enriching for us as individuals.
Coming from a different educational background, I’ve been amazed by the unique approaches and values found here. The Cambodian way of learning, with its emphasis on community, respect, and patience, has taught me a lot. These cross-cultural interactions don’t just enrich the children’s learning — they also challenge us, as volunteers, to grow in empathy and adaptability.
It’s not just about language; it’s about empowerment, self-belief, and creating real opportunities.
Many thanks to the whole KKO family. I’m truly honoured to have been part of this organization’s journey.
